Historic Silver Mine - a unique on-site experience
Check AvailabilityOne of the unique features of Silver Ridge Retreat is our own historic silver mine, dating back to the 1870s.
Visit the mine and marvel at the work accomplished with basic tools and a lot of manual labour. Check the growth of the stalactites and, while avoiding the cave spiders, don’t miss the glow-worms.
Ask us about the mine when you arrive — we’re happy to share more of its history and point you in the right direction.
What you’ll see
The mine offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s mining history. Guests can explore the mine adits and observe the natural formations that have developed over time.
- A rainforest walk along our creek on the way
- Stalactites that continue to grow
- Glow-worms illuminated in parts of the mine
- Cave spiders (harmless but best admired from a respectful distance)
- Evidence of the hard manual labour of 19th-century miners
Please note: Access to the silver mine is available to overnight guests. For safety and conservation reasons, we ask that you follow any guidance provided on site and take care moving through the underground areas.
